FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What is EFT?
Chances are you have tried various things for your weight, your depression, your allergies, your severe pain, your phobias and fears, your abuse problems, your sports performance. You have thrown either loads of time and/or money at your health and/or emotional issues and received very little help. Things just arent working and you know intuitively there must be another way, another approach, perhaps a deeper cause that you aren't addressing. You are correct! And EFT can help you.

Western medicine’s focus has always been on our bodies as a chemical system.  We  also have a complex energy system that the Chinese discovered several thousand years ago, called energy meridians, running throughout the body. Meridians are the centerpiece of Eastern medicine and health practices. EFT uses these energy meridians to clear energy blockages in your body, contributing to physical and emotional relief.

If you doubt that we’re energetic/electrical beings, think about the electroencephalograph (EEG) that measures electrical activity of the brain and the electrocardiograph (EKG) that measures the electrical activity of the heart.

According to Gary Craig, Stanford engineer and founder of EFT, “The cause of ALL negative emotions is a disruption in this energy system.” These disruptions include fears, phobias, anger, grief, anxiety, depression, trauma, worry, guilt and other restricting emotions that also contribute to physical problems. When you clear the disruption or blockage using EFT, you have physical and emotional freedom.

EFT is a new discovery that has provided thousands with relief from pain, diseases and emotional issues. Simply stated, it is a unique version of acupuncture except you don’t use needles. Instead, you stimulate well established energy meridian points on your body by tapping on them with your fingertips. It looks funny but it works! The process is easy to memorize and is portable so you can do it anywhere.

By performing this systematic stimulating or tapping of the meridian points, (about 10 in all), while addressing a specific problem, the emotional issue gradually disappears. This simple process balances and re-energizes the system, often in a matter of minutes, clearing blockages and dissipating the negative emotions as you do so.
  • How does it work?
Every negative emotion we experience, including depression, anger, frustration, stress, grief, guilt, anxiety, fear, etc., is a result of a blockage somewhere in the body’s energy system.  This energy is carried by the body's meridian system through tiny pathways, in the same way that arteries and vessels carry the body’s blood. When that energy is blocked or disrupted by a traumatic or unpleasant event (like being bullied in grade school, having your brother chase you with a snake, or being humiliated by someone at work), we feel a negative emotion - like embarrassment, fear or anger.

There’s another step in the equation, however.  If someone insults you, for example, the end result would most likely be anger.  But what actually happens first is that the insult causes a disruption somewhere in your body’s energy pathways.  It’s that disruption that causes the negative emotion of anger...not the insult itself. In other words, it's the disruption of our energy that causes the negative emotion.
  • Can anyone use it?
EFT is so easy and simple to use that it can be done by literally anyone and everyone. People of all ages, from grandparents to kids find it simple and easy to use. It will not interfere or affect any other treatment method and is an excellent supplement for therapists! It’s safe to use on children and animals and can be very effective in helping them.

For deeper issues and emotional traumas and phobias it is recommended that you work with an experienced practitioner. Remember to discuss your EFT therapy with your primary-care physician if you have one.

  • How can EFT help with performance in the workplace, academics, sports, public speaking and more?
How can EFT help with performance in the workplace, academics, sports, public speaking and more?

I am a perfect example of EFT’s effectiveness with public speaking.  It wasn’t long ago that I would get nauseous and nearly faint at the thought of getting up in front of a group of people to speak.  Today, I’m a proud and confident member of Toastmasters - all because I eliminated my fear of speaking in public with EFT.

What separates the champions in any sport is what goes on in their head.  Peak performers have self-talk and emotions that serve, enrich, or limit their performance. EFT can enhance those positive mental thoughts and change the limiting ones.
  • Helps with weight loss...
EFT helps reduce food cravings, increases our motivation for exercise, improves our self image, helps resolve feelings of inadequacy, emotional over eating, etc.

I am not overweight and I do not know how it feels when the scale shows many unwanted extra pounds. However, I do know how it feels to be  lonely,  afraid, angry,  sad and “not good enough”. These feelings manifest differently for all of us; as extra weight, addiction, passive-aggressiveness, professional or personal failures, procrastination, and so on.

Because of EFT I have allowed myself to move forward, leaving most of the negative self-talk behind and focusing on the good stuff.
  • Compared to other therapies...
Unlike most other types of therapy, results from EFT are often immediate and permanent. It is also gentle and painless. EFT is cost effective because in most cases it does not require the amount of time involved with traditional psychotherapy, rehab, or support groups. Perhaps most important of all, EFT is something clients can learn to do on their own.
  • What are the tapping points?
These are very easy to locate:  Eye Brow, Side of the Eye, Under the Eye, Under the Nose, Under Mouth, Collarbone, Under the Arm, and Top of the Head. There is also the "Karate Chop" point on the side of your hand. It's the place you would use to "karate chop" a board.

  • How long do results last?
In most cases, they are permanent. If after tapping you don’t feel any disturbance regarding that specific issue, most likely that specific problem is cleared. If the issue “returns” it is usually another aspect of the same problem that needs to be addressed.
  • How many sessions?
I ask my clients to commit a minimum of two sessions to fully experience the power of this work.

While EFT has been known to create “one minute miracles,” most people realize quickly that the issue they want to resolve is connected to other issues. Each of those issues, in turn, typically has multiple aspects. We will accomplish a lot in our first session, and it's not uncommon for additional aspects of the presenting issue to arise thereafter.

The one-session client could be forgiven for mistakenly thinking “Yeah, I tried EFT and it didn't work,” when in fact, it worked very well AND previously hidden aspects of the problem are presenting themselves for healing.  The second session gives us a chance to address those aspects. Then you can make an informed decision about whether additional sessions would help you achieve emotional freedom in other areas of your life.

Scheduling EFT coaching on a regular basis yields amazing results.
  • Will I see quick results?
Results are often immediate. Most people report that they feel much “lighter” and “clearer” after the session. It is just a calm and balanced feeling of confidence and clarity.

Clients often “forget” that the intensity around a specific issue was so strong or sometimes even ask me “What emotion are we working on?” The memory of a specific traumatic episode fades and many times clients will start laughing about the issue right in the middle of the session.  This indicates that the trauma/issue has been cleared.
  • Can I do this on my own?
Yes.  You can go to Gary Craig’s website: www.emofree.com, and download the 80 page manual and try it out.

People always ask, “If I can do this on my own, why do I need a coach?”  I tell them it’s like taking a long road trip without a map.  Eventually you’ll get to your destination but you’ll take a lot of detours, get lost and it will take you longer than if you had a good map and navigator.

You can’t imagine the number of phone calls I get from clients not knowing what to say while they’re applying EFT.    It’s easy  for an experienced practitioner to weed out the “self-talk” and get right to the issue that needs to be addressed.

While the same mechanical EFT is used for all issues, the APPROACHES to the various problems can differ widely. There is an “art of delivery” which is necessary for complicated cases and this involves finding core issues and aspects as well as appropriate reframing and other artistic uses of this flexible tool.

A good EFT practitioner knows the right questions to ask to get you to where you want to go faster and has the skills to ensure that your journey is as safe and complete as possible.
